Agility is the ability of an individual to change direction
rapidly without a significant loss of speed, balance, or
bodily control. Being agile requires a great deal of power,
strength, balance, coordination, quickness, speed, antici-pation, and neuromuscular control. Agility is a critical
component to any sport that requires rapid changes of
direction, decelerations, and accelerations. Agility train-ing is comprised of predetermined drills (closed drills )
and drills that force the athlete to anticipate, adjust, and
react explosively ( open drills). Likewise, agility can be
enhanced by plyometrics, multidirectional agility and
reactive drills, strength and power training, balance
training, and sport-specific practice.
