With nearly 70,000 students, Arizona State University (ASU) is one of the largest institutions of higher learning in the U.S. ASU's president was named one of the nation's top ten best college presidents by Time Magazine in 2009.

The College of Nursing and Health Innovation was awarded a third-place ranking among U.S. kinesiology doctoral programs by the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education (AAKPE) in 2004. Students of the Ph.D. in Physical Activity, Nutrition and Wellness program conduct research in exercise, nutrition and health promotion; they must also complete a dissertation. The college additionally offers a Master of Science in Exercise and Wellness, which prepares students for employment in public health organizations or exercise and wellness programs.

Indiana University (IU) was founded in 1820 with its flagship campus in Bloomington. The school enjoys an extensive library collection with 11.4 million volumes in the university system and 8.2 volumes at its main campus. U.S. News & World Report named IU the 75th-best university in its 2011 ranking of national schools.

Graduate programs in kinesiology are offered by the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Those pursuing a high school or college coaching career should pick the applied sport science track of the master's degree program.
