Watch What Vegetable Oils Your Putting in Your Body - They're Not All Alike

Olive oil should really be your single best choice, but there are other healthy alternatives.

First of all, oils are fats, but that's not necessarily bad, in fact, in some cases it's required for optimal health. Since oils are liquid at room temperature, that means they're better than the saturated fats found in meats.

The gold medallist for oil is the olive oil, it is a monounsaturated fat, contains oleic acid which has many benefits, one of which is protection against breast cancer. It also contains the anti-oxidant polyphenols that are protective against heart disease and cancer. Extra virgin olive oil is best

Second is canola oil. Canola oil is extracted from rapeseed, a plant in the cabbage family which can also reduce risk of heart disease.

Expeller pressed (no chemicals used to separate the oils) versions of sunflower and safflower oil are also healthy choices.Oils and fats to avoidAvoid ingesting cottonseed oil, it is too high in saturated fat and may contain natural toxins and probably has unacceptably high levels of pesticide residues, it's really not a food crop.

As always avoid margarine, shortening and any partially hydrogenated oils that may be hidden in your packaged foods.
