The power of exercise and physical activity is demonstrated once again! Are you aware that regular exercise can help prevent you from becoming afflicted with America’s second leading cause of death?
According to the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund, weight management, exercise and proper nutrition are keys to reducing your risk of cancer and helping those afflicted cope with treatment better. Multiple research studies support this! For instance, a 12 year study involving almost 91,000 women – of which approximately 3,500 already had cancer –  found that women who exercised vigorously for at least 5 hours per week had a 38% lower risk of developing breast cancer as well as higher survival rates than women who do not exercise. Additionally, another major study that followed over 7,700 men aged 40-75 years-old over a period of six years concluded that engaging in regular physical activity reduces colon cancer risk by 47% - essentially in half!
Minimize your risk for one of America’s top causes of mortality by taking control of your health – it doesn’t take a lot to get started! To get you moving on the path to a more fit and resilient body that’s less susceptible to cancer I suggest performing cardio exercise – such as walking – 3-5 times per week for at least 30 minutes. This will also help to ensure you get in at least 10,000 steps every day. To enhance your exercise routine you should also perform strength training exercise 2-3 days per week consisting of functional whole-body movements such as the Front Lunge, Curl to Overhead Press with 1-Arm.
