• Set: a specified group or number of repetitions, i.e .,
three sets of 10 repetitions.
• Volume: the total amount of work performed during
a workout. Represented by the total number of sets,
resistance, and repetitions performed.
• Intensity: describes the magnitude of loading (or
weight lifted) during resistance exercise, e.g., 90% of
1RM is high intensity. Some have defined intensity
as representing the magnitude of difficulty associ-ated with training. The latter is more representative of
perceived exertion, and thus the most widely accepted
definition of intensity relates to loading.
• Frequency: a term used to describe the number of
training sessions per week or day. It also has been
used to describe the number of times per week a mus-cle, muscle group, or specific exercise is performed.
• Exercise Selection: the exercises selected or chosen
to be performed during a workout or throughout a
training program.
• Exercise Order: the sequence in which exercises are
performed.
• Rest Periods or Intervals: the amount of rest taken
between sets and exercises. This term may also be
used to define the amount of rest taken in between
reps within a set.
• Repetition Velocity: the velocity at which reps are
performed
